ASTU-Map
Interactive High-Precision Campus Navigation & Turn-by-Turn Guidance

Navigating the expansive Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) campus is challenging for new students and visitors due to complex building codes, unmapped internal pedestrian paths, and lack of building floor directories.
Must run smoothly on mobile devices with low-bandwidth connections, provide accurate turn-by-turn foot-path guidance, and offer visual tools to digitize and maintain campus path nodes.
Engineered an interactive campus navigation web application for ASTU using Next.js 16, TypeScript, Leaflet, and OSRM. Features high-resolution Esri satellite imagery, Dijkstra-powered foot-path routing with synchronized turn-by-turn guidance, building search with instant flyTo camera centering, floor-by-floor room directories, live GPS hardware tracking, and a built-in map digitizer canvas (/digitize).
ASTU-Map: Pedestrian Dijkstra & OSRM Engine
Dual-layer satellite navigation with on-device graph shortest-path calculation
The user selects starting and destination campus building pins. The engine evaluates the mapped foot-path node graph using Dijkstra shortest-path calculations combined with OSRM pedestrian heuristics, rendering turn-by-turn vectors on top of Esri satellite tiles without requiring expensive third-party map APIs.
Integrated OpenStreetMap OSRM network with Dijkstra shortest-path logic to compute real pedestrian walking paths with turn-by-turn step guidance and time estimations.
Combined high-resolution Esri World Imagery satellite basemaps with Voyager vector labels, building polygon overlays, and responsive mobile bottom sheets.
Created a dedicated canvas tool allowing campus administrators to visually plot new nodes, connect pedestrian paths, and update building polygon coordinates directly into campus.json.
